URGENT MEMO-THE ART OF WAR 4 PUSH BACK DATE?

Dear All,

Seems like our request to use the Fiesta Resort for The Art of War 4 was denied. This according to the food and beverage manager, Mr. Das Krishnan. We also tried to get the MHS gym inside the school grounds as a “plan B” but our request did not have strong support from the principle and in fact we were asked kindly to seek other options. (Not to mention the usage fee was substantially high compared to the Fiesta Resort’s Bibiscus Hall).

I verbally requested the use of the Ada gym tonight with Mr. Elias Rangamar, but apparently we need to turn in our letter of request earlier than a couple weeks. They are booked with basketball leagues on weekends the whole month of October. I wouldn’t mind having the event at the TRENCH TECH gym, but the recent typhoon caused some leaks on our roof and our access road in was ruined by the torrential rains.

THEREFORE, for the best interest of the event, and to uphold the advertising integrity of our major sponsors we may have to push the date back to November 6th, 2009 (Sat). or the following weekend onNovember 14th.

I truly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please let me know your take on this. As I had mentioned to all of you in the pass, event dates ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

The buzz is on and TeamPurebred/LloydIrvin’s impressive performance at this years AsianOpenJiujitsuChampionships is resonating good things for Guam and our reconfirming position in regional and world Jiujitsu competition. Repeat and hardfought victories decorated the green and bright redtatami mats at the Tokyo Budokan earning Guam over 30medals of gold medal and silver and a just-as-impressive overall 2nd place team trophy in the PacificRim’s CBJJ and most prestigiious Jiujitsu event.

Expectations were met and new horizons havc been defined with the echo of last year’s Tokyo Open results. as Team Lloyd Irvin  returned with a total metal tally of          Gold    Silver    Bronze  inthe mens,masters,and womens color belt  and weighted divisions

Consistent performances from PurebredLloydIrvin Guam over the years continues to attract the attention of an expanding audience that is already raising inquiries and requests for participation across the PacificRim’s growing BJJ community andindustry. this years team not only brought returning champions from the Bi-annual event but also came fully equipped with men and womens champions from Guam’s Marianas Open andCopaDe Marianas Jiujitsu andSubmission Grappling tournaments.

Notably, international BJJ competitior Eileen Wong, Dara Roberto, Jenna Shieh and Danielle Cabbacang made up temPurebred/LI’s  female entries into the event resounding the diversity in Guam’s internationally competitive BJJ community.

Cabaccang, multiple Marianas Open and Copa de Marianas Champion highlighted  her first tournament overseas earning  a gold medal in the women’s  blue belt     kilo division

 ”   I was filled with happiness after I took gold for Guam in my division at my first off island jiu jitsu competition. There was so much going through my mind before I got on the mat, but I gave it my all and I came out victorious.. Along with so many of my brothers and sisters from Purebred. God deserves all the glory for what Team Guam accomplished in this years Asian Open.”

 

fellow competitor and Marianas Open gold medalist Dara Roberto ventured to her second tournament in Japan for the caliber of athletes and added that “the Japanese possess a warrior spirit and when i go against them i know its going to be a good battle.”

After 3months in competition preparation with Purebred/LI  Jenna Shieh,womens bluebelt gold medlalist mentioned that “The best part of winning gold while representing Team Purebred/Lloyd Irvin is having something to show for all of the hard work and dedication that the team puts into training BJJ. I’ve trained at a handful of gyms, but the training and dedication to training at Purebred/Lloyd Irvin is on another level. The camaraderie and cohesiveness within the group makes for a great environment to train BJJ.

The Purebred/Lloyd Irvin coaches get the credit for making us “savs” on the mat. Coach Steve teaches solid technique and he and the higher-colored belts help us to develop winning strategies for training and competition. Come game time, we are definitely ready for battle! Oouuusss!!

International Veteran Competitor Aileen Wong mentioned of this years event “  ”I would have to say the competition level is rising I noticed there were more competitors this year compared to last year where they had to combine the blue and purple division for the women; overall I saw such a variety of teams from all over the world–truly a great experience       ”

 Aside from multiple medal medalist finishes in the blue,purple,brown and blackbelt divisions—the younger competitors stole the show with World blue belt division bronze medalist Mike Sanchez closing out the mens purple belt division with 4submission victories all under 3minutes in the allowed 7minute matches. BlueBelt world —kilo world champion Eric Sian also took gold with 4victories to his second gold medal performance in Japan.

When asked what it meant to perform so well at Asia’s highest level of BJJ purple belt competition Sanchez replied  that”   “ya no worries rome man first i have to thank everyone in the gym. i couldn’t of done if without my coaches Steve Roberto, Terence Alfague, and all the training partners that pushed me till the day of the tournament. I trained very hard for this tournament trying to get at least 6 days of training a week with some circuits in between. I knew that the tournament was going to be easy, because the way we were training for the tournament was way harder than anyone would be able to push me in one 7 minute round. This year at the Asian Open i was a little more nerveous than i usually am, because last year was my first time fighting at purple belt and I lost my first match. Losing my first match made me train harder than ever and my goal was to come back to the Asian Open and get past that first fight. As for bringing home the gold via 4 submissions at such a high level event was one of the biggest accomplishments in jiu-jitsu career. I went into the tournament very anxious because i knew that I have been training really hard and i knew it was going to payoff. My game plan this year was to jump guard way before the japanese guys could jump guard. I knew it would only take a secound for them to jump guard as the referee says fight, so i wasted no time and jumped first. I worked my usual game plan from there and looked for the trangle. Once i locked the triangle i knew it would be only a couple secounds of fixing and making it tight before my opponents would be tapping, because thats what I worked everyday. To stand on the first place spot on the podium felt so good knowing that all my hard training paid off.”
  ”  while Sian echoed his teammates concern saying that”    ”The PanAsia 2010 Championships was yet again another unforgettable experience. This recent victory required me to be very determined, focused and not to mention very competitive. I know I could not have succeeded without the blessing of God, the help from my family and the support of the Purebred Lloyd Irvin Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team. I want to expand my jiu-jitsu career as far as I can possibly take it by receiving my black belt and not only training amongst the best jiu-jitsu players, but to follow in the footsteps of my Coach, Steve Roberto, and to teach others as well.”

Mens BlueBelt Double Silver Medalist Richard Enriquez continued that ”

thanking the Lord and team for the support and hard work of training we had for the past months. it was another great opportunity of experience to gain of an off island tournament. it got me feeling more comfortable and confident competing this year. i just got my mind set and stick to an A-C game plan. taking and focusing one match at a time, not thinking of how far or more matches left. had to give my best of all of each matches. “hard work beats talent, talent refuses to work hard.”"    ”

double gold medalist Stephen Roberto concluded that  “In closing, Guam was well Team Coach and also BlackBelt Masters Open and Heavyweight Division represented abroad by its finest combat athletes. Si yuus maase for all the support and prayers. We will continue to train hard to represent Guam and jiu jitsu to the highest level possible. Guam was well represented by its jiu jitsu players this week at the 2009 World Jiu Jitsu Championships held at the Walther Pyramid at Cal State University Long Beach. Eric Sian repped Guam proudly with a gold medal finish with two submissions in under 3 min (Darce choke/bow and arrow choke). Awesome!!!

In womens action Aileen Wong fought her way to a bronze medal with her tight triangle attack. Very happy to see her confidence grow with this performance.

I want to also mention all the other people that represented Guam so well.

The Benevente’s David and Christopher showed alot of maturity in there game and they are always making me proud. I had a long awaited reunion with the Vida brothers Ted, Sunny and Kolo. They are giving their fair share of smashing up in the bay area and had great matches. Dominic Damian from Undisputed SD showed a technical triangle attack in a couple wins. Also there was Gerson Atoigue, Luis Reyes, Ron Okada, Gabe Baker, Mike Carbullido, Cliff Nededog, Jessie Manglona, Eric Alcantra and Kelly Harper who made the long trip out here and put their belts on the line in front of the best jiu jitsu players in the world, most especially the Purebred/Lloyd Irvin Team of Terrence Aflague, Ray Roberto, Rich Enriquez, Kiko Shimizu, Maria Dunn, Mike Sanchez, Eric Sian and Aileen Wong for giving it their all! Cant wait til Japan and next year! Biba Guam! Biba Purebred!
