Hafa Adai,
Congratulations to Minegishi Sensei for her promotion to 7th dan in Aikido. It is very much an honor to host such prestige here on island in one of our most dignified martial arts that has helped people tremendously in life across the globe.
Maria Dunns represents the island well in her double gold medal performances in the Oceanic Regional Championships in New Zealand. Congratulations also to Christopher Aguon and Arianna Eustaquio for qualifying to compete for wrestling in the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore this coming August
For someone who’s been on a very impressive role–another congratulations again to John Tuck of the Guahan Top Team for a gold medal finish in the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2010 Open lightweight division. And much respect to Guam’s Richard Chou for pieceing together an exciting and world-class fightcard that hosted the world undisappointingly with last weekend’s StrikeForce in Nashville Tennese
PXC Heavyweight Champion Roque Martinez of the Spike 22 Academy dominated in an impressive first round for his return to Japan MMA in DeepImpact last weekend but fell short suffering a 2nd Round loss and injury via heel hook—possibly postponing his Main Event title-defense bout against Kelvin Fitial of the CNMI.
Enson Inoue, Guam MMA pioneer, returns to MMA this weekend after a 6year hiatus. And next weekend–The “Slam or Be Slammed “ takedown tournament, originally scheduled for next Saturday, postponed its event indefinitely to make room for island athletes to compete in Guam’s signature MMA event PXC on May 1st and Guams Premier BJJ event the Marianas Open on May 8th
In just a short summary of what’s happened in the past three weeks, weve gone through monumental instances in a vast field in the competitive combat sports and martial arts dynamics. It didn’t seem that too long ago,we had to wait for months or even years to hear of any kind of exciting news in our martial arts and combat sports industry. And here we are today—barely even able to keep up.
How reassuring it is to see the multitude of industry credibility our island has gained in such a short amount of time. the current speedbumps for local professional MMA has not disrupted the detours
forward to continue to pursue and display excellence in different fields in the entity of combat sports that Guam has embraced so dearly.
The extended outreach for our athletes seeking success abroad can give us confidence that the next level talent and drive cultivated with our youth can benefit from some of the trails that been blazed to continue the momentum forward of Guam’s competitive martial arts.
Looking at things we can see that the islands have come quite far.
The seeds were good. the soil is good. the fruit has fallen and new seeds have been sprouted. And more than ever, this garden can see that if watering the plants in its pursuit of light–the fruit will come accordingly.
Thanks for Dropping by.
