After an abrupt transition from the sport of golf and with a very early introduction to Mixed Martial Arts competition, Frank Camacho wowed the CNMI with intense performances in the cage and ring.

In 2006 at only 17 years old, and less than 2years of training, Camacho was able to secure the Mariana Island’s first official MMA title with a devastating win over former Philippines URCC 185lb. Champion Fritz Rodrigues. Instantly setingt the Mariana Islands a convincing position in the Asian/Pacific MMA equation.

After many impressive MMA victories distributed within TrenchWarz,RitesOfPassage, Premier XTreme Combat, and Geran Haga, In 2007 Camacho later went to face UFC veteran LuigiFioravanti where despite suffering his first career loss, in a last minute fight against a top level performer, Camacho did better than widely anticipated offering a glimpse of the future of Guam’s evolving MMA potential.

A return to competition after a year of training with the world renowned LloydIrvin Martial Arts Center, Camacho delivered a highlight performance against one of Guam’s premeir fighter athletes Ryan Bigler, and then a week later suffered disappointment with his first KO loss against Caloy Baduria in URCC in thePhilippines.

A year and a half later, Camacho made his debut into mainland US MMA against James Jones in the Ultimate Warriors Challenge for an internet broadcast that gave him publicity for over a half million online viewers. it was his best performance to date against arguably his most formidable opponent in front of the largest live and viewing audience in what couldve been called the most significant fight in his professional MMA career--and he won in high fashion with an impressive KO victory. when we most awaited his return to MMA, Camacho took a step back and ventured through MMAs softer yet most capable feature Brazilian Jiujitsu.

Following is some dialogue with2010 Mens 181lb.(MedioDivision) BlueBelt Division Brazilian Jiujitsu World Champion:

Sorry Rome if I wrote a lil too much! hahah Awesome Questions bro!

**So tell us in summary-your path to the world championship.
-”All the blood, sweat, and tears!”
The path to the world championships was a super good run! Not complaining about the super hard training, the blood bled, the hard work put in, the tears, and all the injuries leading up to the 2010 Mundials. I love it! My wrestling coach, Jim Kelly, showed me this video of Tom Brands talking to a bunch of wrestlers and he said something in these lines… “SACRIFICE?? This is not sacrifice if you love what you’re doing! Its just a set of things that MUST be done for maximum results.  If it is considered ‘sacrifice’ then you don’t love what you’re doing and you are making yourself suffer.”
It was a great run! I enjoyed it! I learned A TON of stuff! It was the first time working with strength and conditioning coach D’Angelo Kinard 3 times a week. And Ive never felt so strong and in shape in my life. We were training for the Mundials early part this year.. around Feb-March. It was a BJJ Training Camp straight on through ALL THE WAY to the 2010 Mundials in June. We had inbetween tournaments like the local Grapplers Quests/NAGAs, Pan Ams, NY Open, and the Brazilian Nationals (for a couple of the competitors). All in Preparation for the 2010 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships (Mundials). It came out real nice.. Team Lloyd Irvin closed out divisions, and had something like 7 World Champions.
I got to experience the “tears” part of the saying. You’re training real hard.. with the rolling, with sparring, getting tapped out left and right, and you are just having one of THOSE days. It gets real frustrating during training because you’re putting in a lot of time with your strength and conditioning and your drilling and when you have one of those days… It can get to you! A couple times after practice I would go to the back room and just think about WHY I’m doing so horrible and start balling. I mean, I started crying from all the frustration of not doing well during practice. I know CRYING doesnt help, but it got THAT frustrating… It Happens! Then it comes down to, are you gonna quit? or are you gonna use what you learned turn that energy into positive energy and get better? It gets rough! That led up to the 2010 Mundials.
“All the Blood, Sweat, and Tears!”
My Path to the Worlds wouldn’t have been possible without Team Lloyd Irvin and Master Lloyd! I cannot go on without thanking my Team! I have the best training partners that dedicated 100% of their time and effort to not only do well at the Worlds but to help their teammates like myself excell! The power of a Great Team. Rome & Fokai Industries! Cuki & the Trench Tech Familia! Josh Castro with ZengZung! Jose “ByTheBay!” youre the man! Mom, Dad, Leslie, Ton, and Aiden (lania Aiden boy you’re only 1 years old and getting a shout out already! haha), family and friends! Thank you! And the people of the Marianas! You’re my drive!
There wouldn’t have been 2010 BJJ World Champion Frank “The Crank” Camacho without you guys!
Si Yu’us Ma’ase para todu hamyu!
**now–your path from the world championships…
I had a list of food prepared for me to DEVOUR after the 2010 World Championships! hahah. It took me a full week to do so! BBQ, A LOAD OF RICE, Cold Stone ice cream, the biggest burger i could get a hold of, fries, taco bell, and the list goes on!
So… 10lbs later Im back to training… Still working on my BJJ. Im looking forward to wrestling more, and Im super stoked about starting to box! Some good, hardcore, straight up, 137% PURE Boxing! I cannot wait to add this to my Game. Ill keep you all posted with training.
Still & ALWAYS a student of the Game! So much to learn!
**Just a few weeks ago, your former instructor, Cuki Alvarez read the future by guaranteeing future world champions.
CUKI!!! You Called it sir! hahah. I’ve heard him say that a couple of times. And Im glad to be proof of his vision. But mark my words… This is just the beginning for the Marianas! There are so much other fellow Chamorros kicking A*& in the world of sport fighting. I admire that! Its a different lifestyle to choose. Definitely stepping out of the box. Hats off to you all!
If you have the very first Trench Warz Fight Night DVD you gotta find the part when Cuki says… “Watch Out World.. We’re Coming to Get Ya!” Ok.. so most people laughed.. Some took it seriously, some took it as a marketing strategy. BUT…. a few years later all the way across the world at the George Mason University’s Patriot Center in FairFax Virginia I said the same exact thing after my UWC fight. “Watch Out World… We’re Coming to Get Ya!”
WE’RE COMING!
To my fellow Chamorro Brothers and Sisters out there doing their thing… Go Get IT! Please dont let anything or anyone stop you or slow you down from reaching your GOALS! Turn negative into postive, Stay Humble, Be Fearless, & remember the place you call home.
**What role do you see BJJ in your MMA and what role do you see MMA in your BJJ?
People tend to forget how MMA was built. I will avoid the history lesson but we gotta remember what started the UFC. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! In that being said BJJ playes a huge role in my MMA game. Although it playes a huge role, I cannot say its playes the main role. The evolution of mixed martial arts has been so crazy, we must all work all disciplines. Ground, TakeDowns, Striking. But I wouldn’t mind having a SICK BJJ base! ;) I gotta admit too… The gi has grown on me…
Starting off as an MMA fighter then putting on the gi was hard at first. The grips, the heat, the EVERYTHING lol! But the mindset I’ve gained through MMA and my fights has helped me so much with BJJ competition. I wouldn’t trade anything off for what I have right now.
**A while back you had a big win in UWC. People saw this as an opportunity to continue your MMA career–what made you shift gears back to BJJ?
Skill Set Skill Set Skill Set! Not only am I at one of the best BJJ Schools in the World, I need to build my skill set to idealy be the “complete” fighter. The level of competition is so high right now in the UFC. There are Olympic level wrestlers, BJJ Black Belt World Champions, and experienced MMA practitioners that have been fighting for years in today’s competition. I don’t want to jump back into the MMA fight scene without feeling ready.
It was hard at first taking off the fight scene to work on the skill sets. Before my UWC debut I had a year and a half lay off and was hungry for an MMA fight! I wanted one SOOO BAD! Now I understand and see the what needs to be done!
**Do you still train and have aspirations in MMA?
Come On!!! What kinda question is that? Hahah.
At the age of 15 I fell in love with MMA. And at the age of 18 I decided that this is what I want to do with my life. Everything I do, all the disciplines I train in, all the different competitions I compete in, is for MMA. I do MMA anytime I can. I was doing MMA during the BJJ Training Camp. Mixed Martial Arts is so beautiful. Its the purest sport out there! Man to Man! I do what I gotta do to win the fight, You do what you gotta do and lets put it all on the line in 15-25mins of pure FIGHTING!
Through competition can you really get in touch with the true You! And competing/fighting in Mixed Martial Arts (the purest sport in my opinion) can you really know and learn about YOURSELF!
**How Did it feel to face fellow Chamoru in the quarterfinals of the event?
First off I would like to thank Mike Carbalito (idk if thats how you spell his last name) for giving me my toughest match at the 2010 Mundials. HOLY MOLY was he tough! It was an honor to fight him in the quarterfinals. Thanks chelu Mike!
It didn’t really click till you asked me this question Rome… Out of all the competitors in my division fighting for the Gold, a fellow chamorro gave me my hardest fight! WOW! thats freaken awesome! hahah… (I’m not taking away from any of my opponents. I learned so much from them all and had to play my A game against all of them. Thanks guys!) It amazes me how the Chamorro people are in a way an endangered species. There are only so few of us on the EARTH!! lol… correct me if Im wrong but Census recorded 150,000 some chamorros? Dangg there are more Sperm Whales out in the Ocean that are considered high risked extincted animals than there are Chamorros. lol. We come from such a small place, and It was an honor to run into fellow Chamorro Mike and battle it out. It was a great feeling seeing a fellow chelu there and giving me my toughest fight!
**Team Lloyd Irvin is making a lot of noise in the BJJ World these days. What do you have to say about training so closely with a BJJ World Revolutionary?
This question leaves me speechless… I cannot explain in words how much of an Honor & Privilege it is to train with Team Lloyd Irvin under Master Lloyd Irvin. It is awesome to be surrounded by Champion Minded training partners with positive vibes!
I am truly being watched over by a Great Power above!
**So tons of people know stuff about Frank The Crank, anything you might wanna say about Frank Camacho?
Frank The Crank Camacho is my “Ring Name.” People say I’m mean, aggressive, violent, and these other stuff when the bell rings. I am who am during that particular time because I have a job to do and I go out there and DO IT!
Outside of BJJ, MMA, and competition I am Franklin B. Camacho. My family call me Kiko, Kikoman, Frankie Boy, Frankie… I am you’re 110% Chamorro Island boy!
1. I would wear my zorries 365 days a year! (if my mom will let me use it to church. Hahah)
2. I will kill for some Estofau!
3. I believe swimming in the Ocean is part of Life. Spiritual therapy!
4. Party invitation 6:00PM… I show up 7:30PM hahah
5. I wish the best for my Island. Give back to the Marianas what the Marianas has given me.
BIBA MARIANAS!

“We would like to invite the entire jiu jitsu community of Ireland to Munster Open Jiu Jitsu Championship, it will be a great phase for jiu jitsu in Ireland and will be really good if everyone supports this to raise the level of the event. We were in Ireland last year, and we could say that we learned a little about the people, the beauty of the country and the jiu jitsu of Ireland. It was an incredible experience, we liked a lot, the country is very beautiful and the people were very kind and were very interested in learning jiu jitsu. We hope that we can come back to learn more about Ireland, we would like to send a hug to everybody and to remind everyone that rivalries are a part of sport but we cannot let this hinder our progress in our jiu jitsu. We always need to find importance through evolution. Big Hug to everybody.”

ny plans to come to the UFC?
Fedor: Not in the near future. First, I need to finish my contract with M-1 Global and Strikeforce (2 more fights to go). Then we’ll see.

Did you fight a lot on the streets or to protect the ones you love?
Fedor: Thanks God, not. The last time I fought on the streets was way before the times of my military duty. There are not many altercations when I’m around.

How’s the preparation for the upcoming fight going? Vadim Finkelstein mentioned some training together with Dutch strikers that were expected to come to Stary Oskol…
Fedor: The training routine goes in accordance to my trainers’ plan. The first stage is over and we’ve just begun the second one. Hard training as usual: a lot of wrestling, a lot of boxing. Probably in the near future some of these kick boxers will indeed come to Stary Oskol.

Has the filming crew already come over to Oskol in order to tape your preparation as it was before your previous fights?
Fedor: So far there is no one. Probably it was not in the plans this time.

Recently a Russian national TV channel (NTV) showed a program on you (in connection to a religious topic) where some inappropriate phrases were used like: “Who is this mister Emelianenko? A member of a sect? The one repenting his sins? Jesus Christ’s warrior?”…”If he visits the church so eagerly why won’t he leave this bloody sport?” etc… What is your opinion on that?
Fedor: It seems to me that people employed by NTV have no decency and are not afraid of God, they lack a clear conscience. Even before that they claimed to shoot a program for a modern-day youth. You know, nowadays young people lost their lifetime values, they don’t know what they live for. The channel’s representative stated that they’d like to use me as an empirical example (= role model) for the ones who drink, take drugs, are lost in debauchery and violence. Officially they asked me for help on this matter through the media channel. The questions they asked me during the interviews had nothing to do with what they broadcast later. They twisted all the facts. I appeared to be some part-time killer part-time member of a sect. Actually, no matter what country I fought in throughout my career, never has any media put presented me like a butcher…. When I was watching that TV episode, it was a revelation to me that I visit the church more often then I have training! I go to church on Saturday and on Sunday that’s what I told them actually… Moreover, in another episode on the same NTV channel I appear to accuse my own brother Alexander of being a skinhead…It’s totally untrue. Alexander has sued them already for the damage of his image. I really can’t understand why they twist the facts. Are they after the ratings, manufactured sensations? There is a clear lack of professionalism. After such incidents I lose any will to communicate with media…

Recently you took part in a Russian hand-to-hand combat among patriotic orthodox sports clubs in the city of Sergiev Posad.
Fedor: Yes and its great these clubs exist. They cultivate not only physical strength but mental, too. For an orthodox Christian doing Martial Arts it’s essential to work on both aspects. It’s not to confuse Martial Arts with violence. The essence of Orthodox religion is that we have never been the aggressors but defenders…

I’d like to know your relationship in the family. Are you the leader in your family?
We always discuss things with my wife, I listen to her of course and she listens to me. But I’m the one who makes decisions. I’m the man and I’m the head of our family. I’m responsible.

How powerful is your right hook?
Fedor: I never measured the strength.

Do you like hunting?
Fedor: I like to be there but not to kill animals. In my life I have not hunted that much.

I noticed you don’t have many sponsors on your shorts or a T-shirt. Why is that?
Fedor: Russian sponsors are not very interested in me in one way or another. Sometimes foreign companies contact us though.

Hallo, I have a son and a daughter of 6 and 8 respectively. Could you give me advice on how to raise them in terms of sport and MA in particular.
Fedor: Of course, you need to cultivate love for sports in them. However, 6 and 8 is the golden age, so you better let them play actively, raise them through that. I’d strongly recommend you bring them to some serious sport later on (10 years or later). Their little bodies need to grow a bit first to prepare for harder training or a combat in particular.

Any thought on a potential rematch with Brett Rogers?
Fedor: Not really considering he lost his last fight.

Do you train during religious festivities?
Fedor: Well, during preparation for an upcoming fight I do.

What’s your aim in life?
Fedor: To live and hail God.

What do you value the most in people? How come you manage to stay modest? Thank you! Thanks to you I quit smoking, stopped drinking alcohol, started doing sports and respect my family.
Fedor: So you see, that’s my aim in life. Thanks God, there are people ready to change their lives, turn to the good. Back to your question: I value kindness and love towards others, ability to remain decent in any situation. I try to be the same person I want others to be.

When will the movie you starred in (Fifth Execution) will hit the cinema? It’s getting late.
Fedor: As far as I know, it was shown to public in a limited mode at Cannes Film Festival. I believe the plan was to launch in autumn but I don’t really know.

Any particular meal you like?
Fedor: Not really. I eat everything my wife gives me. The only thing I “cooked” myself lately was fried eggs and cottage cheese with sour cream (laughs).
Do you enjoy watching action movies?
No, I don’t. There is no truth in them at all. The same script everywhere: stack them with a lot of fireworks and special effects and forget about any normal scenario. I like movies with idea. I like watching ‘The Brother’ 1 and 2 (Russian movie: Brat). I have kids so my favorite foreign movies recently are ‘Hatiko’ and ‘A Christmas Carol’ with Jim Carey.

I’m sure lots of people try to confront you in public. How do you remain calm?
Fedor: I can imagine that at press-conferences some people want to generate more attention to them by various statements or even insults. I don’t think it’s good. Moreover, I always keep in mind I’m accountable for my action. That’s why I try not to play these games.

Do you consider Fabricio Werdum to be a dangerous opponent?
Fedor: Of course. He’s a cerebral and thinking fighter. His style is unorthodox and one of the more interesting.

Is it true that you run (jog) more than 10 km a day?
Fedor: On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I run 14.5 – 15 km in the morning. On Wednesdays and Saturdays I go to Russian banya (kind of sauna, check Wiki for details). Sunday is for relaxation. That concerns a fight preparation period. In the off-season the distance gets shorter.

I’m amazed by how you combine religion and don’t forget about God while being part of this hard sport.
Fedor:There is no need to combine anything in orthodoxy. This is the way of life. I try to live according to the Commandments, go to church and pray. If you are religious there is no other way than to do that. There is no such question: to combine or not to combine. You always feel what you need to do and what not in order to retain God in your heart. As for the so-called Warrior Path, I represent my country; defend its honor on the international stage just like others do. There is no controversy with the religion. I got blessing from Patriarch Kirill.

Was Rogers really greased in your fight?
Fedor: I can’t confirm anything. But he felt different than others.

Have you ever fought or beat up your brother?
Fedor: No, never. I’m older than him. Before army he was a small kid but upon my return he was 15-16 years old, so we already had a lot to talk about and consequently train together.

When you were young who did you want to be like?
Fedor: You know, I always admired what several Russian historical persons did in the past (Alexander Nevskiy, Dmitry DOnskoy, Alexander Peresvet, Fedor Ushakov, Alexander Suvorov). I read a lot about them and watched historic movies. WHen I got introduced to the world of sport the role models for me were Yury Vlasov

Fedor, your next fight will be against Fabricio Werdum. But will you fight Brock Lesnar or is only rumors? People say he challenged you and waits for your reaction…
Fedor: You know our own wishes are not really taken into considerations. UFC had an opportunity to close a deal with us, but they didn’t use it. Until my contract with M-1 Global and Strikeforce expires, there is no talk of fighting elsewhere no matter how loud anyone talks about that.

Have you ever fought Kimbo Slice?
Fedor: No, never. We have never even met each other.

I’d really like to train with you. Is that possible?
Fedor: Lots of guys who come to train happen to ask me a lot for a photo together and it really distracts from the training itself. That’s why in the period of preparations for an upcoming fight we don’t hold any open trainings or seminars. After that you can find information on my website efedor.ru or official M-1 site mixfight.ru

Have you ever smoked in your life?
Fedor: No, I never event wanted or tried to.

What do you feel before the fight knowing that your opponents are no slouches?
Fedor: I’m no different than other people. I feel excited and nervous. But when I proceed to the ring I gather myself, concentrate and everything goes away.

In your fight against Mirko Crocop there was a moment in the first when the fight hit the ground and you got into a very lucrative position for a knee to the head. Why didn’t you throw a knee then?
Fedor: My trainers and teammates asked me this very question, too. I can’t name the reason why. I’m the one who makes decisions in the course of the fight and probably I didn’t feel this strike was necessary and that’s why I didn’t capitalize on the position.

JT’s Complete Black Belt
Match List Is At The Very
Bottom Of This Email

********************************

If you were a part of my email list a couple of years
ago you remember when I first started to tell you
about JT “Spiderman” Torres.  Some people got
angry at the way I spoke about JT.  In case you
weren’t on my list then, I basically said a couple
years ago that JT will go on to become one of the
Greatest American BJJ Players of all time.

Some people were angry, but as always I
like to introduce the World to some of my
students so you can follow their journey.

For the last couple of years people have
been following JT’s journey to become
a Black Belt World Champion.

Since only 2 other Americans have ever
accomplished this feat you can see
how difficult of a task this is.

Not only that, NEVER has a American
Black Belt from a American team ever
gotten a medal in the Black Belt Division
at the World Championships Adult Division.

No American BB from an American
team has ever received a medal at
Brazilian Nationals before JT did it
last month either.

Will this be the year? Can JT do it?

Well below are the results of every
match that JT has had since he
received his Black Belt 11 months
ago.

Since receiving his Black Belt JT
has had 40 matches.

His over all record is 31-9

He won 17 matches by submission

Out of the 9 losses he was only
submitted twice.

JT has only been submitted twice
and that was in the Open division

JT has never been submitted in
his weight division as a black belt

In his last 19 matches JT only
lost once by points and the rest
by advantage.
JT was able to
submit the person that defeated
him by points in a match a month
later.

One thing to note is that JT has
never lost twice to anyone that
he’s lost to in the gi before.

He always comes back stronger
in this second match.  He’s lost
to Langhi by advantage and lost
to Gilbert by advantage.

I expect him to be much more
focused his second time around.

I can’t begin to tell you how excited
I am about his division. The World
will be watching, even our haters have
to ‘kinda’ route for the kid.

I believe that JT has what it takes to
become a Black Belt World Champion.

Can you do it, well we leave tomorrow
for the Worlds, the count down has begun.

If you’re going to be there, I would love to
meet you, please make sure that you
say hello.  I love meeting people
on my email list.

Talk to you soon
