The Brazilian jiu jitsu scene is definitely blowing up due to the arrival of Guam’s first resident BJJ black belt. Mike Fowler first came to Guam to guest instruct at Purebred Jiu Jitsu Academy for a couple weeks in Feb. 06. Well, two weeks later he returned for good and now calls Guam home. Fokai.tv took some time out to pick his brain and find out what’s crackin with this crazy white boy.

What first attracted you to Jiu Jitsu?
My high school referee for wrestling first got me intrested in Jiujitsu.  After the first class, I signed up for a year, and paid in cash!
Who have been your influences since you began jiu jitsu?
My biggest influences have been my instructor Master Lloyd Irvin,  Terere, Jeff Glover,  and Rafael Lovato Jr.

What are your most significant and or meaningful titles?
My most treasured now are 4th place Abu Dhabi, and my 3r place from Brown Belt at the Copa Do Mundo.

Who has been your toughest opponent?
My toughest opponent so far has definitely been Marcelo Garcia.  He ain’t natural.
Got any jiu jitsu goals that your focused on?

My main goal in jiujitsu right now is to win the Mundials.  After that I gots no clue!

You’re a man of many talents. You’re a culinary freak, musician, artist, BJJ black belt. Anything else you trying to master?
Ummm…  I am trying to get the hang of spear fishing.  Oh, and also trying to become a master at blowing bubblegum bubbles.
Any determining factors that influenced you in moving to Guam?
Haha….  I heard there was good hunting and there was need for a game warden!  That and the familia love from the Fokai Fam and  Purebred.  And finadene….and definitely not Tataga…                 C’mon…you think i would move here for a girl?  =P

What is your assesment of the jiu jitsu level on Guam?
Just as good as anywhere else in the world.  Those who wish to truly learn, do, and they are the standouts.

Who are your main training partners at Purebred/Lloyd Irvin BJJ?
Everyone is my training patner!  But he who receives the most beatings is Steve Roberto (who tapped me yesterday….jerk)

What are you most scared of , bears or tataga?
Bears…..I would probably eat Tataga to avoid the Bears.

Anyone you would like to thank?
All the Purebred/ Fokai Familia, Brandon Vera, Master Lloyd, Jessica Alba, The guy who made Cinnnamon flaovred LIFE cereal, Super Mario, Mom, Glenn, Dad, Grandma, Tiny baby infant Jesus, Taco Bell Late Night, Kraft for that wonderful lil invention called Mac and Cheese, Myspace, Fokai.TV,  the movie 300 for being so awesome, Lots Of Art, Art Root, Root Beer, Beer Bottle, Bottle Rockets, IPods, DNA Apartments, Ground Zero Fight Shop, Buzz Cafe, Wu’s fried Rice,  and Moped Riders.

You can catch this freak of BJJ with your own eyes at Purebred/Lloyd Irvin BJJ in Hagatna. Or down at the Fokai shop in Tumon. Check him out anytime. His favorite doughnut is “the Bear Claw”. Bring some if you can!

I htough that Mike was also versed in the art of Car-Jitsu. If the open bar is a position and the Balutan is a finishing move; What about the Happy Hour?
