ON the 26th of June 2010, the 2nd Munster Open BJJ Competition will take place in Cork Ireland

This years Munster open is being run by Team Pedro Bessa Ireland in conjunction with Team BJJ Revolution.

Like most countries with a thriving BJJ scene It all started like the title says “Got Gi will Travel”.

BJJ has grown from humble beginnings in Ireland. It has taken a long time before we had our own home grown coaches, so it was a case of either packing your Gi in a gear bag and jumping on a plane to find some quality instruction or paying for a coach to travel over and run a seminar. From these pioneering BJJ players connections and friendships were forged which helped develop our BJJ scene with Teams from all over the globe establishing on the island of Ireland,  Pedro Bessa, Gracie Barra, SBG , BJJ Revolution Carlson Gracie to name but a few.

Ireland is currently home to 1 Irish Born blackbelt, 8 brown belts and a whole host of purple and blue belts… Almost all of which are actively competing on an international level, whereby returning from UK,European & US Championships with medals. A testament  to the Hard work the Irish competitors put into their training.

Team Pedro Bessa Ireland is run by Liam Beechinor, brown belt under the guidance of BJJ blackbelt Pedro Bessa. Since the birth of the club we have moved from garages to gyms to community halls, until finally setting up shop in our full time facility upstairs at Fighting Fit Gym, McCurtain Street, Cork City. Every year we host seminars with some of the worlds top BJJ athletes, along with traveling in Ireland, to the UK for competition & team training and having Pedro Bessa in Cork for seminars monthly. Pedro Bessa Ireland operates an open door policy, everyone is welcome, we are delighted for anyone visiting Cork to drop in to Join the training session because more and more of our club members are taking BJJ Vacations, training holidays in some of the worlds top academies and bringing back new techniques and training methods to strengthen our team…

Team Pedro Bessa is organising the first IBJJF Referee course to be run in July of this year. This course is open to every BJJ club in the country. The aim is to train as many official IBJJF referees from different clubs as possible to further raise the quality of our competitions and meet international standard.
