“If it’s just you and God in your room, and a religious community makes no demands on you, why help the poor?” This is a quote from a Jesuit priest, a member of an academic order of Catholics. He implies that we only do good things because a religious community makes demands on us.
Is this true? Do you do good things so the church or community will praise you? If you find out there is no God will you go out to rape and pillage? Is God and the threat of eternal damnation the only reason you do good in your life?
Christianity teaches us that we are worthless, born with original sin, damned from the beginning. Look at the world today. Christians killing others for being the wrong type of Christian in Ireland. Jews and Muslims killing each other in the middle east. If we were all spiritual and not religious, America would not have to send our brothers, sons, and fathers to war.

Interesting...I once heard religion was man seeking God and Christianity was God seeking man. I don't believe in denominations and I'm sometimes against organized religion but if you don't put your faith in Jesus you are lost...that is the danger of just being "spiritual".
